Rooted in the Valley: A Personal History of Resilience and Motion
The Philosophy of Elevate
Elevate Mind N Motion: A landscape for the mind that refuses to stand still, and a home for the soul ready to rise.
I identify as a high achieving professional, and my work is deeply shaped by my lived experience as a Chinese American who moved to the U.S. as a young child. Navigating the intersection of cultural expectations, identity, and the relentless pressure to succeed has been a defining theme of my journey. For much of my life, I found myself focused solely on the next achievement, constantly pulled toward a future self and rarely sitting in the present of my own success or peace.
Throughout my eight years as a therapist and Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I have connected with many others who share this experience, specifically the weight of a constant need to perform for the world instead of for themselves. As a therapist, I am committed to my own personal growth, and through that work, I have learned to connect with self esteem, sit with stillness, and lead with balance. I created Elevate Mind N Motion to offer that same open space for those navigating similar pressures, providing a sanctuary where you can finally stop performing and start becoming.
A Career Rooted in the Valley
As a Phoenix native, my journey has been shaped by the quiet strength and relentless grit of this desert landscape. I grew up observing the unwavering resilience of a household led by a strong single mother, and it was within those walls that I first learned the value of endurance and the importance of a solid foundation. These early experiences weren’t just a part of my childhood; they became the "why" behind my professional path.
My commitment to this community is lifelong. My academic and clinical training took me from the pines of Flagstaff at Northern Arizona University to the heart of the desert at Arizona State University, where I earned my Master of Social Work. I created Elevate Mind N Motion to be more than just a practice. I wanted it to be a space where that same resilience I witnessed growing up is honored, refined, and channeled into meaningful growth.
The Intersection of Mind and Motion
Traditional talk therapy can sometimes feel like a cycle, much like the habit of a high achiever to push forward without pause. For those used to thinking their way through every challenge, logic eventually reaches a ceiling. In my practice, I move beyond the surface by utilizing brain based modalities like EMDR and Brainspotting.
I specialize in these tools because they honor the physiological reality of how we process both stress and potential. For the professional in a burnout loop or the doctoral candidate navigating imposter syndrome, these aren’t just clinical techniques; they are ways to clear the path. Often, the biggest stuck point is the inability to stop and notice the internal weather patterns that are slowing you down.
By integrating these specialized approaches, we work to break the cycle of just keep going. I want my clients to leave each session with a sense of lightness, a reclaimed power against trauma or negative self beliefs. It is about shifting from a state of constant, unconscious pushing to a place of intentional motion, where you can truly believe in your own potential, even if you haven’t yet reached your final destination.
Life Outside the Office
When I am not holding space for my clients virtually or running the day to day of my practice, I am often finding my own sense of motion through fitness and recreational sports. I believe that health is a holistic cycle, and I find a distinct mental clarity in staying active and honoring what my body can do.
That energy is balanced by the restorative nature of my home life. I am a deep believer in the power of a home cooked meal, and I often use time in the kitchen to reconnect with my Chinese and Asian heritage. Cooking is more than just nourishment for me; it is a way to honor my culture and share that warmth with those I love.
Whether I am playing with my two dogs, hosting friends and family for a gathering, or simply enjoying the quiet of a well earned moment to myself, I strive to live with the same intentionality I encourage in my clients. I value the balance between high energy connection and the stillness required to recharge, ensuring that I show up fully for my community and my practice.
Reset your mind. Reclaim your motion. See you next Wednesday for the next reset.
